National Curriculum for Music
Music is an integral part of life at Mereworth Community Primary School and as a foundation subject is taught in every year group.
Weekly singing assemblies are held using the digital resource Sing-Up. We are very proud to be the holders of the Gold Award; evidence of our commitment to singing as a school.
As a foundation subject, children are involved in singing, listening and appraising music, playing instruments and composing. We use a variety of resources including Sing –Up and Charanga an interactive digital scheme.
Throughout the year children are given opportunities to perform in assemblies, at Christmas and Mereworth’s Got Talent.
In Year 3, the children receive 30 weeks of recorder tuition as part of the government’s ‘music plus’ scheme. All other year groups experience using a range of tuned and untuned instruments during their music lessons: Year 2 Glockenspiel; Year 4 Glockenspiel; Year 5 Djembe Drums and Year 6 recorders.
At Mereworth there is a thriving Key Stage 2 Choir, and we also offer plenty of opportunities for children to perform throughout the year including: Christmas, The Spring Concert, Mereworth’s Got Talent, Tonbridge Arts Festival and Young Voices.
