Music at Mereworth

Music plays a very important role at Mereworth Community Primary School and we are proud of all the concerts and performances we give throughout the year.

Our events include:

  • Harvest Festival
  • Christmas Festival
  • Music Extravaganza
  • Mereworth’s Got Talent

We are proud to be a singing school and have achieved the Gold Sing-Up Award. We have weekly singing assemblies and a thriving KS2 choir that takes part in annual local and national events including ‘Young Voices’ at the 02 in London and the Hillview/Tonbridge Arts Festival.

Currently, our Year 3 children receive 30 weeks of recorder tuition funded by the government’s ‘music plus’ scheme, which is continued when they get to Year 6.

Young Voices O2 2026

We had a fantastic time at Young Voices 2026, and the children who took part were amazing ambassadors for our school. They had a wonderful experience and participated in the Young Voices Worldwide Wicked Singalong live stream, which they also thoroughly enjoyed.

On Thursday the 27th March, we held our annual spring concerts. In the afternoon it was KS1 with a few guest performances and then in the evening it was the turn of the KS2 children. It was amazing to see so many children taken part across the two concerts, showing such confidence and pride in their achievements.

The concerts included performances from the choir, KS 1 singing club, guitarists, drummers, voice, piano, woodwind and strings.
Year 3 also performed 3 songs on the recorder, which they have been learning since September as part of the Music Plus sessions. Well done to all the children you were all amazing.

Young Voices at the O2 Arena in London

First, we were right up the top- very high up indeed! Then we moved much closer to the middle, getting a fantastic view of the stage. We were even able to see some of our grownups when they arrived! The rehearsal was great fun and we managed to eat our dinner in our seats without making too much of a mess. During the rehearsal we saw some famous celebrities like Jacob Collier and Tommy Blaize - some of us got photos with them too. Lastly the performance came and we were able to sing our hearts out and have a bit of a dance with Urban Striders as well as our grown ups. Even Mrs Jones and Mrs Delaney were joining in! We had a great time and got back safely. Thank you to all the adults who helped.
