RE Overview

Religious Education at Mereworth is covered through planned and taught lessons on a weekly basis with approximately 60 minutes of teaching time in KS1 and KS2. We follow the Kent Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education which aims to ensure that high teaching and learning in RE is achieved.

‘Religious Education is not concerned with the nurture of a particular faith or acceptance of a religious way of life’ but rather ‘enabling children to explore the meaning of life, the nature of the faith and what it means to live life as a believer’ taken from Non-Statutory Guidance for the Kent Agreed Syllabus. This quote backs up the ethos of our teaching and learning whilst ensuring that the children are experiencing different religions during their primary education.

Children are taught in a variety of ways for example: through a range of discussion activities; through written work via access to a variety of resources and appropriate visitors to the school. The scheme of work allows for a spiral approach and is reflective of the religious traditions of a mainly Christian way of life in Great Britain, whilst advising on how other principle religions (represented in Great Britain) are covered.

We also have collective worship assemblies in addition to the taught lessons.
